New Society Publishers, Canada’s leading book publisher with a focus on sustainability, is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Raddysh as Publisher.  Raddysh takes over the reins from Publisher and co-founder Judith Plant.

Plant says, “The appointment of Julie Raddysh as Publisher seems a natural and positive progression for her and for the dedicated team at New Society Publishers. “

With over 250 books in print,  New Society has a long track record for setting a high bar for sustainability both within the company’s organization and with the subject matter of their books.  A proud and successful social enterprise, in 2001 they committed to publishing all their books on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper, leading the book publishing community in Canada.  They were the first carbon-neutral publishing house in North America, and in 2015, the staff became equal shareholders in the company through an employee trust which holds one-third ownership of the company. The company is also a registered B Corporation. All New Society books are simultaneously released in print and digital formats, and New Society has introduced a unique component to its thriving ebook program -- New Society’s Guide To Environmentally Responsible Digital Reading

In a year when the larger publishing houses have been hit with stagnating sales, New Society continues to be successful.  With the appointment of Raddysh as Publisher, there have been additional staff changes. EJ Hurst moves into the position of Sales Manager, transitioning fully into this new role for the company by the end of year.  Sara Reeves will take over the directorship of the marketing department. Two new faces have joined the company with Caylie Graham moving into the role of Office & Publishing Assistant and Alli Rose as Data & Marketing Assistant.

New Society Publishers have a policy of hiring locally, and continues to hire local people in editing, design, marketing, and information technology capacities. The company actively supports the local community through monthly donations to not-for-profits, regular donations to fundraisers, and by offering a unique employee benefit which allows employees two hours paid community volunteer work per week on a rotational basis.

“As I move into my new role as Publisher I look forward to working with our incredible staff and talented authors as we continue to spread New Society Publishers' books around the world in multiple languages and formats, while at the same time becoming a leading example of a better way to do business.” says Raddysh.
